A ferromagnetic plate placed under non-compatible cookware so it can heat on an induction burner. It works but loses some of induction's speed and efficiency since heat transfers through the disc first.

Why does my magnet stick to the edge of a pan but not the base?

Some pans have a magnetic rim or handle but a non-magnetic cooking surface. Only the base matters for induction, so always test there specifically.
